Image of Dr. Michael TheissDr. Theiss is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He was born and raised in North Woodmere, NY, and is the youngest of three children. He graduated from George W. Hewlett High School and then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami in 2014 graduating Magna Cum Laude majoring in Biology. Following his time at UM, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine in 2018 in Stony Brook, NY. From here he completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in 2022 in Richmond, VA. He also served as Chief Resident of the VCU Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He trained at several hospitals including, Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, and Parham Doctor’s Hospital.

Dr. Theiss is passionate about providing quality, state-of-the-art care to his patients. Dr. Theiss’ philosophy is to offer patients personal care that suits their specific needs. His goal is to provide the most functional, cosmetic, and stable results in a compassionate and caring way.

Outside of work, Dr. Theiss has extensive pursuits in local and international community outreach. Recently, he traveled to Madagascar for four weeks to provide oral surgical treatment to the under-served Malagasy population. In his spare time, Dr. Theiss also enjoys baseball, tennis, golfing, cheering on his favorite sports teams including the Miami Hurricanes and Buffalo Bills, playing multiple musical instruments, and spending time with his wife Chelsea and his dog Kalani.

Dr. Theiss is skilled in all aspects of oral & maxillofacial surgery including dentoalveolar surgery, implant surgery, orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, benign pathology, laser surgery, and general anesthesia, obstructive sleep apnea, and facial trauma. However, he has a special interest in dentoalveolar surgery, implant surgery including the All-on-4 treatment concept®, orthognathic surgery, and temporomandibular joint surgery including arthrocentesis, arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and TMJ total joint replacement.

Dr. Theiss is eager to continue his career as a premier Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon serving the community of South Florida.

Professional Memberships and Affiliations

Dr. Theiss is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a member of the American Dental Association, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Florida Dental Association, South Florida District Dental Association, and the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Theiss recently published his research on the treatment of a rare jaw tumor in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Cases Journal in 2022. He also presented his research at the Eastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Conference as well as the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery national meeting in 2021. He published additional research on the management of facial trauma focusing on fractures of the lower jaw.

Dr. Theiss is on staff at numerous hospitals in South Florida, including Delray Medical Center, Memorial Hospital West, and Memorial Hospital Miramar. He maintains certification in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
